Memorial Scholarships

The Le Roy and Arlene Memorial Scholarship is managed by the Center for Scholarship Administration on behalf of the Le Roy and Arlene Winkelhorst Charitable Trust. Wells Fargo is the administrator of the trust. The Jean De Ruyter Memorial scholarship is administered by the Consistory of First Reformed Church that is the current acting Scholarship Committee of the church.

The scholarship application portal csascholars.org becomes available every March and the application is typically due by April 15 of each year. Only one application is required for both scholarships since the scholarship application is used for both scholarship programs. In order to be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Applicants Criteria

  1. Applicants must be members in good standing of First Reformed Church. (The membership process includes taking a membership class, appearing before the board of elders, and making public profession of faith in front of the congregation.)
  2. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. For recent high school graduates or post-secondary students with less than 15 credits, the GPA requirement is the cumulative high school grade point average. For post-secondary applicants who have completed at least 15 credits, the grade point average is the cumulative grade point average at the post-secondary level.
  3. Applicants must demonstrate traits of high personal character and leadership.
  4. Applicants may attend any accredited institution of higher learning, including colleges, universities, and technical schools.
  5. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Legal Residents.

Scholarships are approved at the May consistory meeting.  The scholarships are renewable for three additional years as long as the student continues to meet the above criteria in addition to completing eight hours per year of volunteer work for First Reformed Church or one of the ministries it supports.
